"It seemed like so long ago, but also seems like yesterday. Our trip to Cambodia started in Siem Reap, the starting point for our river cruise on the Mekong River. One of our first impressions was the population was so young and the people were so friendly. With Siem Reap as our base we spent several days exploring the amazing Ruins of the Temple complexes of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. The most amazing part of the trip to the temples was the morning we hiked a half mile up a small mountain to see the sunrise over Phnom Bakheng a temple built in the ninth century dedicated to Shiva. From Siem Reap we boarded our beautiful riverboat to cruise up and then down the amazing Mekong River.
We had the opportunity to visit several active temples and a Buddhist Monasteries as well as small villages along the river. At one stop we visited a school teaching English in a small town where we interacted with the students answering their questions about our home countries. The history of this resilient country and their people is amazing. Our trip to the killing fields was life changing. The Cambodian people are some of the friendliest people we have met.Recommend a trip to anyone." --
