Taaluma Totes are made of traditional fabrics from around the globe. Travelers are journeying far and wide to find the craziest cottons & slickest silks this world has to offer...wandering deep into local markets and down fabric-filled alleyways to find a piece of the real local culture.
Each fabric is sent to our team in Virginia who crafts these fabrics into backpacks. We work with a group of adults with disabilities who bring so much talent and positivity to the Taaluma team. Each team member's job is based on their ability…whether that be marking fabric for cutting, stitching panels on sewing machines, or trimming loose threads in final inspection. These team members work alongside top notch seamstresses and together they are the hands behind each and every tote.
We close the loop by giving back to people in each tote’s country. 20% of profits are microloaned in the tote’s country to farmers and small business owners. They repay the loan when they can and we use the repayment to buy more fabric for the next tote— starting the cycle again.
