Farming

A loan helped to buy seeds and expand her horticultural farm business and, as a mother of five, to generate more profit and educate her children.

Jane's story

Jane is a motivated smallholder farmer from the Litein area who always works hard to bring success into her life. She has the drive to work very hard, making very hard farm decisions. She is a mother of five children, four of whom are in school. She has little time to make money to provide financial support for her family. Her primary sources of income are milk, horticultural farming, eggs, and some personal businesses that she engages in.

Jane is seeking a loan of 35,000 Kenyan shillings (KES) from Kiva lenders to buy seeds and expand her horticultural farming business. Horticulture farming offers employment opportunities to thousands of smallholder farmers in the Litein area, and it’s for this reason that Juhudi has teamed up with Kiva to provide access to a loan that will help Jane to expand her farm into a highly profitable business. With your loan, Jane’s family will benefit from the growth of her business. This will not only increase their income, but will also improve their living standards.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
